Inflexible Physical Legacy Infrastructure Migration to AWS

Issue

To design and test a full scale AWS infrastructure capable of supporting multi-vendor application integration, up to 20 million user queries per day and messaging support for a range of underlying applications.

Engagement

To design and build an AWS proof of concept infrastructure and deliver a roadmap for a multi-year migration programme. To provide a management dashboard to allow tracking of service status and associated costs.

The first part of this engagement was to train internal enterprise architects and infrastructure managers on the AWS technical stack.

Outcome

This engagement is on-going, AWS technologies used and training provided:

  • EC2 – Running RedHat Linux AMI, Java Spring running on Tomcat
  • Simple DB for product catalogue
  • RDS ( MySQL Relational Database Service )
  • Elastic Load Balancer
  • SQS for Service Driven Architectures
  • Cloud Watch Monitoring and Auto Scaling services
  • S3 for Content
  • Cloud Formation
