Microsoft Stack Deployment into AWS

Issue

To provide a rapid, enterprise scale deployment of SharePoint 2010 across multiple geographic locations without impacting the fully loaded central data centre resources.

Engagement

SharePoint 2010 was required to support a large and disparate team running approximately 50 projects. The platform had to integrate with existing Microsoft corporate services including: Active Directory, Exchange and SQL Server Farm running as an intranet using AWS Virtual Private Network to integrate into the existing corporate network.

Outcome

The SharePoint service was implemented on an AWS platform and internal client infrastructure staff trained on AWS.

  • EC2 Windows Server 2008 and Windows AMIs MS SQL Server, EBS
  • AWS Virtual Private Network
  • S3 for backups via PowerShell and AWS APIs
