One response to “Microsoft’s Azure cloud is officially open for business”

  1. For all its dominance in the software and operating system sectors, this is Microsoft’s first cloud offering, so it enters the cloud market behind leaders such as Amazon, Google and AT&T, and still needs to prove itself here.
Azure is a Windows-as-a-service platform that not only includes the operating system, making Windows available via the cloud, but also developer tools designed for building web-based applications.
Given Microsoft’s historic attitude to licensing it’s software, it is not yet certain what implications the Azure offering will have on vendor lock-in, which to an extent goes against the whole cloud philosophy of buyer choice.
