Morgan Hill have announced a series of events around cloud computing and IT costs starting in London at the City Club 19 Old Broad St London EC2N 1DS on the 14^th of September 2010.

The City Club event is aimed at senior executives from IT, finance and general management who want to gain a clear picture of how this technology will effect organisations in general and their costs in particular.

Morgan Hill will show where the IT cost savings arise: why, when and how. Taylor Wessing, a leading international law firm will illustrate the legal and security issues. Amazon Web Services will describe the technology that lies behind cloud computing.

First full release for CouchDB

CouchDB, a non-relational (NoSQL) document-oriented open source database, has finally reached version 1.0. Claimed features for the first full release are:
* Up to 300% faster than the pre-release version,
* support for Microsoft Windows,
* authentication system – until recently this could have been seen as a major oversight,
* replicator options – CouchDB offers a number of replication methods.

Sugar 6 Available on Microsoft Windows Azure Platform

SugarCRM is the major open source customer relationship management (CRM) platform; following the release of version 6, it is also certified for deployment on the Microsoft Windows Azure platform.

Interestingly SugarCRM competes directly with Microsoft’s own CRM platform as well as Software-as-as-Service providers, such as Salesforce.

European enterprises contemplate moves into cloud computing

Research commissioned by datacenter solution provider Brocade reveals
that 60% of European enterprises believe that within the next two
years they will have started planning and migration towards cloud
clouding. Whilst cost reduction is seen as a major driver by 30% of
enterprises, more than a third believe security to be a major obstacle
to moving into the cloud.
