Starting cloud computing

Whilst the definition of “cloud computing” is debatable, the services that make up cloud computing can be broken down into a handful of types:

  • Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) – scalable, on-demand, infrastructure (compute power, storage and networking) to host applications
  • Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) – a platform for development, hosting and operation of applications on a cloud infrastructure
  • Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) – applications hosted on cloud infrastructure and typically accessed via a web browser

Determining which of these best suits your organisation’s needs may not be immediately apparent. Morgan Hill Consultants Ltd has experience in helping organisations make the most appropriate choice. We will help you inventory your existing systems to determine which are suitable for cloud computing and which type of service they require.

In many cases running a pilot programme will help your organisation become cloud ready by helping staff and identifying skills gaps – learn about our four step pilot deployment programme.

Once the type of service has been determined then the most appropriate supplier or suppliers needs to be determined – again, Morgan Hill Consultants Ltd can help determine this.
